Hey all,
On my machine I host several different informix databases...is there a way to take just one of them down and leave the others up?
-thanks in advance

Wink Re: kill a particular Database / leave others up

Hi
Since you host several instances, i assume you have different environment variables you setup before going to that instance. Try to setup that env variables
Environment variables that are needed:
ONCONFIG
INFORMIXSERVER
INFORMIXDIR
PATH of informix binaries

Please export those & you can check if you are on the right instance by checking the ONCONFIG...Then issue "onmode -kuy"

Hope that helps!

By "Kill" I assume you mean make it unavailable?

Several ways to do that:

1. Rename the database to something: Rename database production to zzz_production.

2. Revoke CONNECT permissions on the database.

If you need to do these on the fly, you will need to kill (onmode -z) any sessions that are currently connected. Easiest way (on Unix) is to do a "onstat -g sql" and grep for the database name in question. This will give you session id's for the "onmode -z".

Question thanks...one more thing!

That gets me in the right direction. I did notice something I am curious about, when I do [onstat -g sql] I get a list with the connections/and databases and in the column called "F.E. Vers" I see two different numbers. For two of my databases I show 9.03 and for one 7.20.

Assuming "Vers" means version...what does this mean, "version" of what? I am running Informix Dynamic Server 2000 Version 9.21.FC7X3 in general...so I am curious about what this column means!

-thanks

Re: thanks...one more thing!

You see the version of Setnet they are using on their PC. You should make an effort to upgrade them.
