I'm trying to restore a 7.23.UC6 Online database onto a new 64Bit HP-UX 11.11 machine. As I've got no tape that will attach to both machines I've backed up the database to filesystem into 2GB files, copied the files over to the new machine and try to restore.

When I try the "ontape -r" command, all I get back is :

"Physical restore failed - function open tape device /load/backup failed code -1 errno 72"

As far as I can work out, the error 72 means "Value too large to be stored in data type".

Is what I'm trying to do impossible or am I mssing something ?

Error 72 means: Not a stream device

Are you sure you can access the tape that way, and is the Informix version on both machines the same. For backup and restore the version (and os) must be the same.
