shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER '<NULL>'

ERROR :: shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER '<NULL>'

when ever i start my server it gives the above message ::

how to fix this problem ??

Are you sure you set the value of INFORMIXSERVER?

INFORMIXSERVER must be set

On unix platforms
export INFORMIXSERVER=<your_server>
