This position is responsible for the standards and configurations of the systems required to maintain the network and services of the organization. ISP related functions (DNS, mail servers, new servers, WWW servers, load balancing, etc), central authentication systems, hosting system engineering, backend system research and design and deployment of new technologies related to hosting are the responsibility of this position. Network security issues, messaging, and e-commerce also fall into the responsibilities of this position/group. This position also designs and builds the systems needed for the company to gather, monitor, and forecast the utilization and health of the network and system infrastructure. Software packages built around monitoring systems and ticketing systems are designed and deployed as well as custom applications using data collected via SNMP and reported for clients and internal engineering in customized views.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

•Serve as senior staff within the group, and assist with various aspects of mentoring and project management.
•Primary responsibility revolves around the engineering of scaleable systems and software for deployment across company’s network.
•Testing of new code written internally and supplied by vendors
•Engineer both code and systems to integrate new capabilities into the company offerings and ensure those capabilities fit into the internal infrastructure.
•Responsible for technical evaluation of new features and releases for possible inclusion in future products.
•Assist in the creation and modification of tools for use in monitoring various internal systems
•Assist Systems Operations in diagnosis of difficult or complex systems and application problems

Skills and Qualifications:

•Educational degree not required
•3-5 years work experience at an ISP or equivalent enterprise is a must
•UNIX and Windows 2000/3, NT 4.0 system administration background
•Corporate security experience is preferred
•Successful candidates will have 3-5 years of in-depth experience in Internet protocols, applications, systems, and related technologies.
•Unix Shell programming, sys-admin experience, configuring Unix boxes for networking environment.
•Good communication skills
•Detailed knowledge of system integration
•Detailed familiarity with TCP/IP protocols and applications, and in particular must be familiar with how those protocols and applications are deployed within typical WAN/LANs.
•Above average in writing and documentation skills
