Principal Accountabilities:
The Database Engineer independently operates the following IT database management system development life cycle: technical requirements, requirements analysis, design, implementation, configuration, testing, and tier III operational support. The database engineer interacts with customers and/or internal business units to provide hardware and software technical database design alternatives along with case analysis for selecting cost effective solutions within the required parameters for performance, reliability, and redundancy. This position participates in software development teams and designs, installs, configures, and supports all database management system hardware and software components in development, test, and operation. Following repeatable processes, the database engineer deploys all database management system components according to industry best practices for database performance, reliability, redundancy, and security. For database management systems that require formal security certification and accreditation, the database engineer is part of the team that supports the accreditation process. This position participates in teams that provide 24/7 tier III engineering support for transactional or processing database management systems that require high availability. The scope of duties is inclusive but not limited to hardware (such as desktops, laptops, servers, storage, switches, and load balancers) and software (operating systems and database management system). The database engineer interfaces with System Architects for system design and analysis and directs System Administrators, Network Administrators, and Database Administrators for implementation, configuration, testing, and operational support.
Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent preferred.Minimum three years experience with Microsoft technologies.Minimum three year database management systems setup and operations.Proficient in at least one programming language.Expertise with IIS, MS SQL, Oracle, Storage, Backup, Linux/Unix. Exceptions to the above requirements can be discussed on a case-by-case basis, or satisfied by equivalent experience, education, and / or training.[/QUOTE]
