IT Technical Project Manager

We are Niche Technologists, Inc., an IT staffing and consulting company delivering services to clients throughout the U.S. since 1993.

We currently have a full-time position for a Technical Project Manager (Applications Development Group) with a long-time client in NY City.

Overview
This position manages the implementation of applications supporting business initiatives and calls for PM experience over the past 4 years that includes managing staff, and managing complex large-scale, multi-layer and long-term (18 months) projects. The successful applicant’s background will include at least 3 years of applications development experience before moving into a project management role. This position is not a coding position but the PM role requires a very technical professional.

Primary responsibilities
This role manages all aspects of application development including developing project plans, workflows, timelines, and meeting agendas. Note that the projects are typically focused on facilitating a cross-functional team in the development and implementation of systems for new business development. This role works closely with the business users and leads a team of Software Engineers and Business Analysts throughout the project life cycle.

Requirements
• 4+ years of IT project management experience, managing complex, multi-layer, long-term enterprise development projects
• 3+ years of application development experience (Java object-oriented is a must and J2EE is highly desirable)
• Strong understanding of SDLC and RAD methodologies
• Strong documentation skills are a must
• Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
• Must have experience in and able to thrive within a fast-paced environment where requirements tend to change regularly
• Excellent communication skills are a must as well as strong attention to detail
• Business and negotiation skills needed to work with client and analysts to determine what features a team can deliver given constraints
• Strong understanding of all aspects of corporate software development – strong client, server, database and reporting skills
• Experience managing staff
• Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in computer science, information technology, engineering or related field is required
• Must reside within a reasonable commute to NY City (midtown)
• Note that visa sponsorships not currently available
