Motorsports Engineering Company seeks SQL Server DBA specifically focusing on installation and configuration of MS SQL Server as well as implementation, administration, and troubleshooting SQL Server connectivity on and off network. The ideal candidate will possess a background in MS Windows operating systems and administration, demonstrate proficiency with SQL databases, and have exposure to database technologies. This position involves the configuration, support, monitoring, troubleshooting, and backup of a SQL Server 2005 database application installed at several client locales.
Required work includes planning and executing database installations and upgrades as well as supporting the planning and release of upgrades. Working with the development team as well as end users to enhance existing databases will be necessary. The primary role will be database administration and support, but the job may also include other IT-related duties. This position will be responsible for supporting client databases in North Carolina, requiring frequent visits to client facilities and to some race/test events. Occasional travel to Michigan may also be necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following items:
1. SQL Database Functions
Proactively monitor and manage multiple client instances of SQL Server 2005/2008 to minimize downtime, both on-site and remotely
Troubleshoot and resolve SQL alerts and errors
Monitor SQL jobs, DBCC results, space utilization, and backup verification
Support and coordinate database application upgrades and rollouts via scripting
Troubleshoot data issues, modify job processes, and assist in new process development
Setup, maintain, and troubleshoot database merge replication and replicated instances
Setup and maintain database security
2. Operating System and Networking
Windows user and security management
ODBC setup and configuration
Experience with WINS, DNS, and network topology
Domain security and authentication expertise
Application configuration for on and off network functionality
IT-related duties beyond the traditional DBA role, as required by company or client needs
3. Software Development Support
Assist with setup and maintenance of test environments
Participate in software testing
Provide customer support and problem resolution
Create and maintain procedures and knowledge base
Make recommendations for improved procedures and practices
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Desired Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent (2+ work experience preferred) or Associates degree in Information Technology, Database Administration, or equivalent, and 2+ years work experience
Desired Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
2+ years experience administering SQL Server 2005/2008 databases
Strong T-SQL skills
Exposure to and utilization of Server Management Objects
Thorough understanding of Microsoft Windows/Windows Server operating systems and networking concepts (domains, authentication, security groups, maintenance, and networking)
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to organize work amongst multiple projects and prioritize effort accordingly
Ability to work under pressure and accommodate demanding client schedules
Experience working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise
Ability to work within a team, but also independently when required
Posses a high level of self-motivation to improve products/processes
