Jr. Data Base Analyst

The University of California Riverside, the fasting growing campus in the UC system, is looking for a full time permanent Jr. Data Base Analyst. The position will serve in the Database Administration Unit, which reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor. The position will provide advanced technical and programming support in the administration, Management and design of complex databases for the campus.

What will you do?

70% - Database Development - Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, Computing and Communications, and reporting directly to the Director, Database Administration Group, independently create, manage, support, trouble-shoot, and administer databases supporting various transaction processing, reporting, and vendor supplied ERP systems. Interact closely with application developers / programmers and engage in database design and maintenance aimed at optimizing application performance, reporting capabilities, and reliability.
30% - Application Development - Engage in application development and programming as required. Interact with systems programmers to ensure database robustness, reliability, and performance.
In addition to the above, provide state-of-the-art application development and programming.

What kind of candidate are we looking for?
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated, significant proficiency in SQL and the use of SQL within third generation programming languages.
  • Significant experience supporting transaction processing applications.
  • Strong background utilizing Oracle databases, including various Oracle and non-Oracle database tools (Oracle Enterprise Manger, SQL Loader, Erwin ERD tools, etc.).
  • Programming skill, especially utilizing PHP, PL-SQL, Perl, HTML and .Net.
  • Background resolving interoperability issues, including managing and manipulating data imports and exports, background with ODBC, SQL Net, etc., and knowledge of XML.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong Microsoft desktop skills, and ability to take directions and subsequently complete projects independently.

Preferred
  • Extensive experience with non-Oracle databases, especially Oracle.
  • Extensive experience managing databases across a variety of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows (NT, 2000), Sun Solaris, and Linux.
  • Strong understanding of web architectures and tools, including various web servers and development environments.
  • Strong PHP and .Net development background.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to an advanced degree in a related area.

Must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in USA
