design/datasheet view switch without re-running query?

For 1 million record tables, I am designing some query's which take 30+ secs. to run. If I run a query (Datasheet view) then switch to Design view, as soon as I switch back to Datasheet view the query is run again, even if I haven't changed the design. Those 30 second delays can get inconvenient. Is there a way to avoid this time penalty without copying the query's to tempnames and viewing the design of the tempnames. This applies to switching datasheet/design views of large tables also.
