Talking Beginners Guides

It may have been mentioned before - I haven't the strength to read through ALL of the replies.. however

Would the experts think of possibly posting comprehensive guides to some of the easy beginners type stuff.

I certainly know, that the only way that I have been able to do anything with databases is because of searching through posts on this site, but there is still a LOT of things I don't understand - mainly because it's in techy speak, or because there's an assumption I already know something.

The codebank is great, and has helped loads, but it's not always easy to understand how to manipulate it as a beginner either!

Just some thoughts

Microsoft did precisely that, and there are extensive tutorials available from within Access. One thing Microsoft does really well is documentation. It really is excellent quality, and it's all there under the Help menu.

But, obviously mine is a minority point of view as there are a ton of tutorials out there on the web. A number of folks here have some very comprehensive websites, though I'm not sure how many of them are Access oriented. But definitely check the profiles of people who post frequently about Access.

I'm not using Access at the moment, and since the last version I can figure out is getting pretty long in the tooth, I'm going to have to demur. I don't think a forum like this is great for comprehensive tutorials, it's more of a Q&A format, but something like a wikibook might work better.

Precisely my problem, as my installation is without the help menu or the northwind database (yes IT is a huge problem in my company).

Will take your advise though and keep looking. It's just hard to find a comprehensive guide thats still in a language I can understand as a beginner. I find that there is always a gap between what I understand, and what the author takes as a given amount of pre-existing knowledge.

Fear not, I'll continue to thrash around to keep my head afloat.

Dedicated CODE area for MS Access

A dedicated Code area - broken into different elements
VBA Code General
VBA Code Forms
VBA Code Recordsets
VBA Code Reports
VBA Code Access to Excel
VBA Code Error Trapping

So many sites have a general Access area and examples are hard to find
Access Demo Applications
Access Code Archive Examples

Also:
A place that users can put Example Access DB for others to download
This is a good way for consultants to post work that others can find useful and include advertisement for consulting work.

Put your window in tab order

I am kind of a feak for keeping my hands on the keyboard. If I don't have to grab the mouse, I don't. It is always nice when a screen is set up in a logical way so the here for instance, I answer the magic question, tab, put in my title, tab and then land in the message box where I type in my question or comment, like this. Unfortunately if I try that here and hit tab, it takes me to the bottom of the screen and I'm lost.

I know it is a small thing, but it is something I enjoy when it works. It's possible a bunch of other people feel the same way.

OK, I got that off my chest, thanks.
