Red face Help!!! Access 2007/2010 functions disabled in Win 7

I have several Access databases that worked a week or two ago on a Win 7 system that now have error messages opening queries with Left(), Right(), or Mid() functions in the query. I tested this in a new database on both Win 7 and Win XP. I works without error on the Win XP system but I get an invalid function error message on the Win 7 system. Did MS disable this in a recent update to Office or Win 7. Help.

Sounds like you have at least one missing reference.

On the machines having an issue:

In the VBA editor go to Tools > References

Look for any that are check at the top of the list that start with MISSING.

Is your database split?

Have you added any new references?

Amazing

Thanks HiTechCoach

It was a missing reference to an old add-in for special bar codes that was no longer needed. What is strange is that it would affect the use of some but not all unrelated functions in a query. I would have never guessed that one.

Experence counts

Thanks again.

Jim

Reference libraries are funny that way. A missing reference can make functions whose reference(s) are not missing to act up! Sometimes even the order that references appear/are loaded can make a hash of things!

It's always a good idea to check for missing references if
  1. Something works on one machine but not another
  2. Worked on a previous Access version but not a later version
  3. Worked on a previous OS but not a later OS
