Fixing this error

Hi,

I have made a report using SQL Reporting services and it generates fine, and it exports to Excel fine, but when users try to open the saved excel file the following error is generated:

********

Microsoft Excel File Repair Log

Errors were detected in file 'TRial.xls'
The following is a list of repairs:

Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel
attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted.

*****

I have found a 'workaround' from Microsoft Help and Support, but is there a
way to correct the error instead of doing the workaround? Is there an 'Hotfix' or anything available?

This is the help page:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;820712

Thanks

I have not had much problem with this. Acording to the MS Kb this is related to workbooks created in an earlier version. I've seen a lot of problems with the Excel 97 'Too many Cell Formats' Error that was making us crazy. I think the place to start is by simplifying your workbooks where possible.

Delete empty worksheet
Remove refrences and orphan refrences.
Remove links to other workbooks.

to check for refrences use:
'Insert->Name->Define...'

This will give you a list of defined refrences in the workbook.
