Moved database, odbc

We have been using Excels (2000) as reporting tool for data stored in MSSQL. We are in the process of replacing this server. The only difference (outside hardware) is the server name. When I did testing today, I edited my ODBC to reflect the new server figuring that if I told it a new place to find the data it would. Any existing queries still goes out and hits the old server. If I delete the ODBC, it fails alltogether (states that odbc does not exist). When I recreate the ODBC again to the new server, it still pulls data from the old server. If I create a new query, it links to the new server. Is there a easy way to work around this without recreating the spreadsheet?
