Red face FoxPro and Excel

Hi, I'm trying to run a query in Excel (Office 2003) on some old dos based FoxPro files. The FoxPro files are located on a Novell Network and Excel is local and I'm using Windows XP. The problem I'm having is Excel tells me that I need to install a ODBC driver for FoxPro.... I have only managed to find Virtual FoxPro drivers on the net.....and it will not install because it can't find the files to upgrade???? I don't understand what is going on, can anyone help me please?

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for replying. Yes, it would seem that XP isn't shipped with the drivers for FoxPro? It has to be downloaded from the web, but because Foxpro is installed over the network it will not update.

Hi,

Yep, it seems that MS has dropped the ODBC-driver for FoxPro in 2003.
(I had to check it myself due to several versions of XL installed...)

A quick search at MS gave a page:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/do...c/default.aspx

which also mention that it was dropped in MDAC 2.6.

Is this the page You also found and have tried to use the available driver?

A downgrade to MDAC 2.5 is not recommended, especially if You running Windows XP.

Edit: I found this page after more searching which seems to make the driver available for download: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...m/usgvodbc.asp

It seems that the best way would be if You have the Office 2000 CD available and install the FoxPro-driver from it.

Season greetings from,
Dennis
