How to display only subtotals

When using the subtotal function in excel, is there a way to display only the subtotals? There seems to be no option for this in the menu, so if I have 10,000 records, I see my subtotals dispersed between the different categories. To use the subtotals, I then need to go thru a sorting process, copy/paste special just the subtotals to a new worksheet, then unsort the original subtotaled worksheet and remove its sub-totals.

There must be a better way.....

if you are NOT using AutoFilter to filter the list before doing the subtotal function, after subtotal function finishes, on the left hand side of the screen, right under the cell address window there are 3 small boxes with number 1,2,3. click on number 2 you will see the subtotals only

hope this helps
