Benchmarking SQL Server 2005 - how do I know if there's a need2do performance tuning?

hi guys, just wondering if anybody has any way to benchmark the performance of a SQL Server 2005, either through scripts or tools. I have a server with some complaints from the users but I suspect it could be a network bandwidth quality issues.....how can I prove that SQL Server 2005 itself has no performance issue?

It's holding a tiny DB that has less than 10GB of transactional data......

you are supposed to benchmark before you have performance problems.
