Question mysql causing linux disk swap?

Hi,
I have a dedicated box running php/mysql. I am experiencing swapping to disk, even though I have a Gig of ram, and the queries (as far as I know) take advantage of index. I am running phpnuke.

Why do I see swapping even when I have lots of free space?

Here is "free" results:

-/+ buffers/cache: 130856 881484
Swap: 2040212 73036 1967176
I am getting really desperate!! Please help.
