mysql.sock is missing!

So my client installed Red Hat 9.0 and MySQL 4.0, and everything was peachy. Then they installed three applications from the Red Hat CDs, that relate MySQL to things like Apache and PHP. Then they installed Apache, and now /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock is gone. Can anyone help me out? Do I have to uninstall and reinstall?

Hay Buddy, I have the same problem too. Even I re-install the Linux doesn't help.
