MySQL equivalents to Oracle?

One way to interact with Oracle is via SQL*Plus.
SQL*Plus has the capability to edit & re-invoke a SQL statement.

How can this be done against MySQL database?

When inside SQL*Plus, you can invoke an external file containing SQL statements, doing the floowing:
SQL> @multiple_sql_statements.sql

How can this be done against MySQL database?
