totally newbie question please some help from the experts, i am trying to build a database with no knowledge about it, after creting my database in cpanel i go to phpmyadmin and when clicking on the database i have, i gues i must upload my query, my big problem is i do not have any idea waht a query is or even how to construct it, but if someone point me out the right way for sure i will get it done.
my questions are

1. Is a query/ies something can be done in a program like openoffice.org, if no which program should i use to build it

2. can a newbie learn making queries? if yes, how?, where can i find a tutorial or a simplify theory about queries

i use openoffice my favorite program, would be really nice if i could use this one to build my database.
