Backing up MySQL in Windows

I am just learning MySQL 5 and have it running on a Windows 2K3 box. What would be the best way to backup my databases? Can I simply copy files in a folder or does a command need to be run?

I was also thinking about having it auto-backup by creating a scheduled task. Any ideas on how to accomplish that if I have to do a command in the MySQL CLI?

Thanks!

if its a MySQL database, then as far as I can see MySQL Administrator works, if you are using INNODB in another SQL engine then mebbe not....

backing mysql databases

hi

i would recommend getting phpMyAdmin. It is pure magic and FREE, to quote them:

"phpMyAdmin 2.9.0.3 is released

Welcome to phpMyAdmin 2.9.0.3, a tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the Web. Currently it can create and drop databases, create/drop/alter tables, delete/edit/add fields, execute any SQL statement, manage keys on fields." .... and do backups!

see their website http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/index.php

check with your host if they don't have it installed

hope this helps

regards

clive
