Can a specific fulltext search operator be escaped/disabled?

As I understand it, the dot character (.) splits words when doing a fulltext search i boolean mode, and that messes things up in our company catalogue since several companies have names the same as their website urls, like "foo.se" or "bar.com". Is there any way to disable or escape the dot?
