mysqld file

I just installed MySQL 5.0, downloaded as file mysql-5.0.67-win32 from www.MySQL.com.

I am running on Vista.

Following directives in the manual, I execute this from the command line:
C:\> "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\mysqld" --console

But I get an error saying that C:\Program Files\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\mysqld is not recognized as an internal or external comman, operable program or batch file.

Yes, that is the correct path.

Here's what's really odd. When I installed MySQL yesterday, the mysqld file did not even exist! It appears to have been created today, about the same time I ran the command. But, its size is 0 KB. Absolutely empty.

So now I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Googling this got me nothing.

Any suggestions?
