why mysql is free

hi ,
As we know MySQL is a popular open source SQL It is available at
free of cost any one can download from internet and can use to their
application.So what could be benifit for MySQL owner.as I have changed Many of online sites backend from DB2 to MyQL

as on the other hand as DB2,oracle,SQL Server all are paid

rightly said m42 . money isnt always important! its like that credit card advt 'thr r lot more things in life than just money' .. also its like democracy slogan .. for the people, by the people ..
