Maintenance of Partitions in mysql5.1 table partitioning

Hello All,

We've a table that have 40billion records.And now we want to partition that table using RANGE partitioning.I'm scare of maintenance of partitions in future.

Can someone help us at the time of partition maintenance(rebuild, repair, optimize etc...) it will effect the online transactions or not.
