linkin img with db

Hi i am new to mysql and am working on a script
were the user collects 8 imgs when they collect a img the script checks db to see if they have it.
Then shows it in the table then each 1 they have it will show till they have all 8 then it unlocks a box
has anyone got any ideas on how to do this
