C++ & MySQL++ & MySQL API

I'm using CodeBlocks and am attempting my first non PHP/MySQL application...!

I'm in need of a good tutorial for acquiring and compiling the MySQL API for use with C++ and MySQL++

Been looking for a while and I'm either not getting it or all the things I'm looking at so far are pretty confusing...!

Can no one help with me with this...or would a different approach like one of the many connectors be better...?
