Smile get bad interpreter error when trying to install mysql from binary

Hi there

I am presently trying to install Mysql 4.1 from binaries loaded from their website. Folwing the instructions, I get so far but then come across the following message when I try running the mysql_install_db script:

scripts/mysql_install_db: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied

Could anyone please suggest how I can resolve this? I'm trying to install the database on a second hard drive if thats of any help. My linux distribution is Suse 9.0.

Thanks in advance
