Best beginning database

Hi there, I am new to this forum and some what new to databases as a whole. So I was wondering what database would be good to start playing with that is fairly user friendly and easy to understand. I don't want to jump right in I just want enough so that I can get my feet wet.
any advise would be appreciated.
