sending mail from dbms_scheduler

using oracle 10g is it possible to send email from the dbms_scheduler based on the result of a batch job run from the os?

DBMS_SCHEDULER.create_program (
program_action => '/u01/app/update_stats.sh' );

on job failure, program returns a flag to oracle which sends an email notification.

Alternatively, you could simply have cron invoke the shell script which also sends email upon failure.
What is gained by involving Oracle & dbms_scheduler ?
You can lead some folks to knowledge, but you can not make them think.
The average person thinks he's above average!
For most folks, they don't know, what they don't know.
Don't say, show. Don't promise, prove.
