portal.wwv_utl_api_types.vc_arr

I am using portal.wwv_utl_api_types.vc_arr to accept an array of strings into a procedure that updates the database from an Oracle Portal form. It works great for 999 records or less, but fails when the size reaches 1000 rows. I am looking for documentation on portal.wwv_utl_api_types.vc_arr and/or how to overcome this apparent limitation. Any ideas? Thanks.
