how to configure oracle db on cygwin

Hi,
This is a query regarding how can i have my oracle database which is on windows xp get connected to cygwin...i have set $ORACLE_HOME & SID in cygwin, still not able to have db on this unix emulator..and when I look at the registry, I see ORACLE_HOME referred to as C:\ORACLE.

In cygwin my path variable is showing as

PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/cygdrive/c/oracle/ora92/bin:/cygdrive/c/Program Files/Oracle/jre/1.3.1/bin:/cygdrive/c/Program Files/Oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/system32:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/System32/Wbem

please tell me what am doing wrong , how to configure oracle for cygwin..as this is just a emulator of unix on windows , when i set $oracle_home inj cygwin, does it mean i would be having multiple oracle_home? am bit new to oracle, so pls help...

Thanks a lot...

I have never seen nor heard of anyone installing Oracle under Cygwin.
I suggest that you use Oracle VM & ORACLE Enterprise Linux instead

I have used Cygwin in the distant past to have access to utilities like grep & such.
I wonder why you just don't install Oracle for Windows & be done with it.
Why are you obsessed with involving Cygwin & Oracle together?
