Ideal Career Path for Oracle DBA

Hello,
I am new to this forum and seriously considering Oracle DBA as a career path. Of course I am seeking the ideal education/career path that most companies seek in an Oracle DBA. Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks

Catch-22
Without experience, you won't get hired.
If you can't get hired, then you have no experience.
All DBA's started working as something else.

well, thanks for the reply but would you care to elaborate on say....the degree one needs to complete, any certs, etc

Those are specified by the hiring company.
Spend some time reading the Job Sites like Monster or Dice to see requirements for actual job openings

Usualy, all future DBAs start as system administrators or database developers. But this is more like a pattern than a rule.

As the others are saying, you don't start off as a DBA. Most DBAs got a job, any job, in IT then drifted/steered themselves towards being a DBA. Be keen, learn as much as you can, and eventually the opportunites to be a DBA will start to appear.

heh...so would I be able to infer that a two-year degree from a community college can get you a job as an admin/developer? just a shot in the dark.
