Post Migration to Oracle 9i from Oracle 7.3.4

Our Customer is currently having a system that is running in Sun Enterprise 3000 with Solaris 2.5.1 OS and Oracle 7.3.4 database. They now wanted to upgrade Solaris 2.5.1 to Solaris 9 and migrate Oracle 7.3.4 to Oracle 9i.

1. I understand that Solaris upgrade utility comes with Solaris 9.0 and can only upgrade from Solaris 2.6. How to upgrade Solaris 2.5.1 ?

2. When upgrading what will happen to Oracle 7.3.4 database?. Will it still work in upgraded Solaris 9.0 ?

3. Our Database size is around 45GB. Which is the best method to migrate the Oracle 7.3.4 to Oracle 9i?. I understand Migration utility could be used but it would require Oracle 7.3.4 to start with and I am not sure if Oracle 7.3.4 can run in Solaris 9.

4. Can Oracle 7.3.4 and Oracle 9i instance co-exist in Solaris 9

thanks for the help

Re: Migration to Oracle 9i from Oracle 7.3.4

Concerning the Oracle upgrade, instead of migration you could also export from 7.3.4 and then import in a newly created Oracle9i database.

Ad Dieleman.
