Upgrade from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7

Hi,

I've now succesfully installed both 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 to same box.

How should I upgrade 8.1.6 database to 8.1.7 ?

Start old database with new binaries and follow instructions from Oracle.

OR

Export data from old database and import it to new 8.1.7 database.

Thumbs up

Go for option 1, read Oracle Docs and run the upgrade utl script for moving from 816 to 817.

I ran a test update that took me from 815 to 817 and that went off OK.

BTW - u might wan to get hold of the 8.1.7.4 patch and load that too.
BUT ensure that you've upgraded your DB via the above first.

For beginners, I suggest using the Migration Assistant even to jump one version.

Should I first upgrade to 8.1.7.0, and after that install 8.1.7.4 patch ?
Why not install patch and after that do the upgrade directly to 8.1.7.4 ?

Thumbs down

From my readings of the Oracle documentation the upgrade scripts/ utils that are provided with 8.1.7.0 know NOTHING about any of the later patches and so its not a safe procedure to try upgrade from 8.1.6 straight onto 8.1.7.4. via an Oracle upgrade script.
