Oracle 8i + W2000

Hi,

I have Oracle 8i installed on a W2000 and all was running ok.

However, when I customised the view in w/explorer in the directory where my trace files go, I found that they no longer appeared there but started appearing in ora817\rdbms.

When I look at the properties of the original folder it has "read only" ticked and I can't untick it (ie I untick it, click apply and OK but it's still ticked if I look at properties again). I've more experience in Unix than windows and our Server Team have informed me that customising and also the "read only" tick in properties should make no difference but I'm not sure.

Has anyone had this problem?

Thanks in advance

Charlotte

Maybe

I'm more used to Oracle under Unix too.

But the main thing here is who you were logged in as when you installed Oracle.

You really need to be logged in as Administrator, even a user that belongs to and Admin group will have problems.

I'd recommend an uninstall and a start from scratch as fixing this one problem on its own will probably only be the start of your issues.
