Formatting DBase3+ numerical to character

Need to save numeric field like 2.275 to character field like "2.275" . Can transform in Clipper, how do I do this in dbase. End up with rounded character 2.

is there something like a SET DECIMAL command?? I know foxpro has one, dont remember if dbase3 does..
