I think, it depends on the program language You use, but I think, there is no direct command to do this.

I have two ideas to solve Your problem:

- open the dbf file in Excel and start a search for a string value
- open the file as binary, and simple search the readed text value

Do You want to program it, or You wish to do it manually?

If manually, then it's very simple, go the the directory, where the file is, and use the dos "Edit" command.

This will start the dos editor, simply use OPEN and CHECK the "open as binary" option. After this, You shell see the file as binary, and You can search for any text with the "search" option

That's correct, because the memo fields are exists in a different file - to check the string there simply use the same methods on the memo file.
