teradata performance improvement

Hi all

Can anybody provide some general tips/guidelines
on how to improve performance in teradata ?

like using some Functions which are faster than others.
and any suggestions for parsing a string (because im doing a lot parsing in teradata stored procedures as a result the performance suffers)

anybody has used XML with teradata ?
