Compatibility of web DBwith IVR DB

Here is my problem. I have an IVR (telephone) platform that uses MySQL and I need to interface this IVR's database with the database of a soon to be built website. Can we use MySQL for this purpose? I have been told that MySQL would be very difficult to implement for this purpose and the result would be very unstable.

Is this true? And if so, what can we do? Help!
