PSQL and data access

Working with a PSQL 2000 db with SP3. This is a company accounting db and response is very slow. I have tried to access a few tables using the ODBC and access.

When I try to access this way, my cpu hits 100% usage. I am working on a 1.2 gig processor and 750M on memory. This is a test configuration before I go to the production server.
