Ingres on NT - winstart.exe

Hello

I use Ingres on Windows NT. I have to run winstart.exe everyday when I first login. I'm tired of having to remember and having to click the "start" button in the winstart window. Isn't there a way to start ingres totally behind the scenes, like as a service or something?

Thank you!

Yes, you can start Ingres as a service automatically. Go to services and turn it on. If it is not listed, start it first then go there and set it. You should be fine.

I don't see the service listed. Do I have to have administrative privledges on Windows 2000?

What I ended up doing was making a .bat file with contents:
"C:\IngresII\ingres\utility\ingstart.exe" and then putting the .bat file in the startup folder. I just didn't want to have to click the start button on the winstart.exe window all the time. But if running as a service gains me anything . . .

Thanks!!

Same problem

I've encountered the same problem, and the service isn't listed in the Services window.

I've installed Ingres so i could run ODBC from this computer to another on the network. How do I get the service into the services list if it isn't there?

When you run ingstart (with traffic lights in the top left corner) there should be a "Start as service" tick box below the dialogue screen.

This should create the service for you.

Other ways are:

You can also add the ingstart at the Windows Startup Menu.

Or add ingstart in the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER_\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

You could try re-installing the service manually.

opingsvc remove

to remove the service and

opingsvc install

to install it.

opingsvc is in %II_SYSTEM%\ingres\bin - but that should be on your path anyway
