Unknown Dtabase index extensions .mf

Can anyone help. I've been asked to import data from a database that has files with cust.dat & index.mf. Does anyone know what database thsi might be. I am used to using Delphi & Paradox/Dbase - but this one is a puzzle ??. It comes from a Windows application.
