I tried to set an owner name to specified Btrieve file in our database with the BUTIL –setowner Function.
It seems that it works fine.
But when I tested the result (by opening the file with the Function Executer GUI program) it did not show me the message "owner name is invalid" like it should be.
Furthermore, when I try to set the owner using the GUI program it reported that the owner name is already set,
It means that the owner name is maybe set but the access to the file is still open and free (I tested that as well).

What was your command line when issuing the SETOWNER?
There are several levels of ownername access. For example, you can still allow read only access without the owner name or encrypt the entire file.
For example, the following disables read only access:
butil -setowner class.mkd /O1234 2
The following sets the owner name and allows read only access to the file:
butil -setowner class.mkd /O1234 1

the command line was:

BUTIL -setowner file.dat /Otest /2

maybe the '/2' is the problem?
