.dat .msg and .dbd files

I have been asked by a client to recover data from a database which utilises the above extensions. The system appears to be an old dos database but I don't recognise it. I can use a browse command to run the .dbd files which appear to be menus and then it appears the .dat files store the data I need to access. I can view the .dat files in notepad but with a lot of rubbish as well. Does this sound like a pervasive/btrieve database or something else and how do I retrieve the data?

One final thing when viewed through the browse function the data has 2 hex numbers at the start presumably a record number eg. 000A:000F

Big thanks to anyone who can help.

Hugh
