Are you using Pervasive.SQL V8 SP1? If not, you should update. When the engine jumps to 99% CPU utilization, are you running any ODBC/SQL queries? If so, you're probably running an unoptimized query.

No. 8.5 was released after SP1. Did installing 8.5 solve the problem?

Open a support incident with Pervasive would be my next suggestion.

Did this fix the problem? The problem that I'm seeing has nearly identical symptoms - only it is 7.95 (2000i). NTDBSMGR goes wild and all other client activity essentially stops.
