Database recovery from "base" directory

Hi,

We had an application running in our office with PG 8.4 as the back-end. Since the PC went bad, we were to take backup and for some reason we only have the base directory with us. Please advise how this may be used to restore the db!!

There is no way to recover the database from an incomplete backup.
