Hi Folks,

I have to be missing something really easy here.... Maybe you'll spot it: I've been having some difficulty getting MSDE 2000 (3a) to load on my development machine. I've had it installed before - several times! - but I can't get it to load now. I get to the point where it is 7 seconds from complete on configuring my system, then it stops.

Here's the command I'm using:
c:\msderela\setup.exe sapwd="password" securitymode=SQL disablenetworkprotocols=0

Prior to running the command, I did the following:
1. attempted to remove msde via add/remove programs (not there)
2. deleted sql server program folders
3. cleaned up the registry by deleting:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
HKLM\software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQLServer
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SQLServerAg ent
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSSQLServer ADHelper
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Set up\ExceptionComponents
4. rebooted
5. disabled norton
Then I ran the setup.

Obviously, something didn't work. The event log says "The local computer may not have the necessary registry or dll files to display messages from a remote computer." We're not dealing remote... It continues: "You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description" (can't find anything about /auxsource...) It continues: "SQL Server is terminating due to a 'stop' request from the Service Control Manager".

Any help will definitely make my day! Thank you! - Al C.
