    Unhappy Unanswered: server connection error

    Hello all,
I am trying to connect to a sql server which is on WAN from a machine which is in LAN.
    It gives the following error:
Unable to connect to server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx :

    Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

The ports for sql on the firewall are open. Even tried connecting by shutting down the firewall.

ANy and all help highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Harshal.

tried ping? telnet to 1433? tracert? in other words: are you certain you are able to reach the server you want to connect to? If so, try using a sql-username/password to connect.
