    Question Unanswered: different results on different servers

    hi all,
    A friend of mine had a question, I have no idea why this happens since I work on Ms sql

    here it is:

    I have run one query in Development DB and Production DB, I get following
    output.

    Development DB:

    Here the length of the column is 4

    SQL> select 'amit' from dual;

    'AMI

    ----

    Production DB:

    Here the length of the column is 32

    SQL> select 'amit' from dual;

    'AMIT'

    --------------------------------
    So why is this difference between to DBs?

    Hope someone will be able to help it out.

    Regards,
    Harshal.

    If the column is only 4 wide Oracle will also only show a 4 column header...

    Thus your difference....

    Ok I am not that conversant with oracle,
    but in the above statement I beleive that u want me to replace
    the table_name and column_name with the actual table name and the
    actual column name, if this is the case then, as far as I believe dual is a virtual table and it has just one column so ...?
    it would be helpful if u could elaborate more.

    Regards,
    Harshal.
